§ 44-3. Oceanfront bulkhead minimum requirements.

  • The minimum requirements for oceanfront bulkheads to be erected on any one or more of the easternmost lots of Blocks 1 to 26, 952, 954 and 956 in this Borough shall be as follows:
    A. 
    Pilings shall be creosoted, 25 feet long, 12 inches at a point two feet from the butt of the piling; pilings shall be so erected that they shall measure six feet center to center.
    B. 
    Sheathing shall be so creosoted, tongue and grooved; three inches thick; 18 feet long as a minimum.
    C. 
    Wales shall be creosoted, three-double six by eight inches; inside and outside of sheathing.
    D. 
    Struts shall be creosoted, six by eight inches; struts shall be so constructed that they shall measure six feet center to center.
    E. 
    Back pilings shall be untreated, 10 feet long, and shall be so erected that they shall measure six feet center to center.
    F. 
    Bolts shall be three-fourths-inch galvanized iron, O.G. washers.
    G. 
    Tie rods shall be three-fourth-inch galvanized iron, O.G. washers, with minimum length of 18 feet.
    H. 
    Bulkhead shall be not more than six inches above boardwalk elevation.
    I. 
    All materials to be used in the construction of any bulkhead shall be new and of first grade; all labor and workmanship performed in the erection and construction of an oceanfront bulkhead shall be performed in a workmanlike manner.
    J. 
    All wales used in the construction of oceanfront bulkheads shall be spaced as follows:
    (1) 
    Top wale elevation: 17.5 feet above mean low water of Atlantic Ocean.
    (2) 
    Second wale elevation: 11.5 feet above mean low water of Atlantic Ocean.
    (3) 
    Third wale elevation: 5.5 feet above the mean low water of Atlantic Ocean.
    K. 
    All wales shall be bolted to the piling.
    L. 
    No backfilling of oceanfront bulkheads shall be placed until the construction of the oceanfront bulkhead in question has been approved by the municipality or its proper representative.
